path The former senior platform manager of Facebook, Dave Morin launched a new social cum personal networking startup company, Path that limits the number of friends at fifty. Path is more appropriately called The personal network because it goes against the concept of Twitter or Facebook that allows to make any number of digital friendship. Dave limits the number of friendship at magic number 50 because, as per Oxford professor of evolutionary psychology Robin Dunbar, 15o is the maximum number of friendship a human brain can handle. The company said; “Because your personal network is limited to your 50 closest friends and family, you can always trust that you can post any moment, no matter how personal”.

Path is trying to solve the issue because our social networks (like Facebook) are too busy, and because of this, we miss the moments we actually want to share with our close friends. When you follow a few hundred of people on Twitter, or have more “friends” on Facebook than you really know, you miss the moments that those networks want to provide you with the people that you care about. The company said that a free app for Path is coming to Android phones and the BlackBerry. The social network is also supposed to add premium services later.

However, there are some limitations of Path. You can not comment or like photos in path. You will not be able to publish to other network like Flickr or Facebook from Path. Also, you can not visit a friend’s Path profile name if you are his or her friend. Additionally, you can not use any filter or crop photo.,

Path is the latest to join the social media bandwagon. It has already made quite a splash in the field. With it’s limitations, we have to wait for people’s response as it’s still early days for the website.
