Telecom veteran named FairPoint’s Maine president
PORTLAND, Maine — FairPoint Communications has named a 40-year telecommunications industry veteran as its Maine state president.
FairPoint announced Thursday that Michael Reed will be responsible for governmental relations, regulatory matters and economic development issues in Maine. Reed most recently worked as a government affairs manager for TDS Telecommunications.
North Carolina-based FairPoint is the largest telecommunications company in northern New England after buying Verizon Communications’ land and Internet operations in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont in 2008.
It has been suffering under a heavy debt load and technology problems and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last fall.
