IBM signs $500M deal with UK agency

LONDON — IBM Corp. said Wednesday it signed a contract extension worth 300 million pounds ($500 million) with a British government agency that licenses drivers and registers their cars.

IBM said the deal extends an existing 10-year contract with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency by another three years, until September 2015.

The contract covers projects such as upgrading the agency’s computer systems and setting up the technical infrastructure for an electronic payments system for drivers to pay their car taxes.

IBM signs billions of dollars in services deals every month. Last quarter, the company, based in Armonk, N.Y., signed $11.8 billion in services contracts, including 13 greater than $100 million each.
