NYC overhauling agency data infrastructure
NEW YORK — Mayor Michael Bloomberg is overhauling New York City’s data infrastructure. He says it will save millions over the next five years.
The city says its departments are constantly adding to their information technology.
Instead of building on outdated and different systems at 40 city agencies, the mayor plans to consolidate them in data centers.
Other plans include shifting the 311 hot line service center under the oversight of the mayor’s office. It is currently overseen by the information technology department.
The information technology agency will still oversee 311’s staff, budget and infrastructure.
