Unisys is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of a missing desktop computer that belongs to the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The computer, which contains personal information on 38,000 veterans treated at VA medical facilities in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, went missing from the offices of Unisys, the subcontractor hired to assist in insurance collection for those facilities. Unisys acknowledged the computer’s disappearance last week.
Such incidents do not inspire much confidence in corporation & government in protecting your personal data. Can you imagine a senstive computer getting lost from a government office without trace? Isn’t that what security is for?

And I guess the $50,000 reward is supposed to make sure whoever has their hands on the computer realize it’s definitely worth more than it looks? |
