Comcast sets 100 Mbps Internet speeds for business

PHILADELPHIA — Comcast Corp. has begun offering Internet speeds of up to 100 Megabits per second for businesses, starting with the Twin Cities region.

The nation’s second largest Internet service provider said the 100 Mbps rollout aims to compete against the slower and more expensive T1 lines used by businesses.

Comcast said a 2-gigabyte file — such as for a high-resolution X-ray — could be downloaded in about 2.5 minutes using 100 Mbps. It would take more than three hours on a 1.5 Mbps T1 line.

Shares of Philadelphia-based Comcast rose 38 cents to close Wednesday at $16.85.
