Hackers beware. You can be behind the bars if you are caught stealing sensitive information or manipulating seveal computers having unauthorized access. The punishment can be as grave as 7 years of imprisonment. Those who offer intruders software or tools face similar penalties, according to the draft of the 7th amendment to the law submitted to the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.

The report submitted by this committee shows that a staggering 1 million dollar is lost in a month due to crackers who crack online gaming accounts. Another popular technique is to put trojans into one’s computer and retrieve all the information from that. You won’t believe, but in recent past internet fradulent cases worth $290 Million have been registered. While China is at it to implement this law to strengthen the cyber security, all await to see how does this affect the huge underground industry of hackers.

The main question is of the infrastructure though. Can our police and the network be educated enough in this short period of time to fight against the able hackers? There are many questions which are to be asked and answered and modified during this law enforcements. Knowing hackers’ mindset pretty well, I know they must be laughing it off like as if they ever cared!

Saw a movie called Untraceable recently which, don’t get me wrong, was just a hollywood movie, but it was about a hacker using social networking as a murder weapon (kind of…you’d have to see it) and doing it in a way that, as the title suggests, is untraceable. The movie wasn’t great but it was interesting to think that with the right skill set it’s possible to be virtually unidentifiable. I’m even more interested to see how the governing bodies of the world govern this beast that is the web.
