Key Features of WordPress 2.0

Most of the changes in WordPress 2.0 are internal. However you will notice improved admin interface and some nifty features and some pain. I will highlight the key features for bloogers in this release.
AJAX goodies like ability to create categories while editing a post, more intuitive list management, fade-in/fade-out effects etc.
WYSIWYG editor with draggable sizing. I don’t particularly like it as it is rather slow.
You can easily change the color of nasty-big-blue-blob on the default theme.
Role replaces user level. I am assuming tons of plugins which check the user level before allowing specific action will fail.
Posting with large ping lists should be faster. Last time they tried to add pinging to shutdown hook which obviously doesn’t work. Haven’t checked the code this time. Hopefully they have incrementally distributed the load to other admin activities only.
Database query caching to speed up access. Haven’t noticed it on my blog. I am looking forward to see some numbers.
For once I am not going to be an early adopter. I will wait and watch and test on my test blog.

I don’t suppose you know of a way I can get rid of the upload section in the write area of 2.0? Or make it collapse and be movable like the rest of the options? |

Dear Thomas, Welcome back. No. I haven’t upgraded my blog to 2.0 nor would I recommend it yet. All my anti-spam plugins like referer bouncer work. You can give Akismet a try. Personally I am not comfortable about routing all my comments through another server just to determine whether it is a spam. |

Hello Angusman, Been about a year since I’ve visited here.. Had a couple questions: Have you upgraded your blog to wordpress 2.0 yet? Before you talked about the best anti comment and trackback spam plug in… Do these still work for wordpress 2.0 or do you have a new best recommended ones to keep spam out for Wordpress 2.0 ? Thank you. Thomas |

[...] Wordpress 2.0 is coming out as a final release soon. The blogosphere is all a flutter with excitement. Seems most of the changes are internal … meaning, unless you’re a developer, you won’t really notice them, visually. My question is - - with the auto-thumbnailing of images finally work out of the box? What’s new in this version? Glad ya asked - check it out I’m a big WP fan, for sure - so every new release gives me thrills. God when did I get so boring? [...] |
