Reveler dies at giant cocktail party in France
PARIS — Police say a reveler has died in an accident at a giant cocktail party in the French city of Nantes that drew 9,500 people after it was organized on Facebook.
There is a trend of raucous, enormous cocktail parties in France. Another one in Montpellier in southern France Thursday drew 10,000.
The Nantes prosecutor’s office said a 23-year-old man died Thursday after falling six meters (18 feet) while trying to slide down a railing at a bridge.
Nantes’ regional prefect Jean Daubigny told 1Tele TV that 57 revelers were hospitalized after drinking too much.
Paris police posted their own Facebook note, warning that a planned May 23 giant cocktail party near the Eiffel Tower is illegal, as is drinking alcohol there.
