Symantec’s antivirus software, which protects some of the world’s largest corporations and US government agencies, suffers from a flaw that lets hackers seize control of computers to steal sensitive data, delete files or implant malicious programs, researchers from eEye Digital Security said.

Symantec is investigating the issue. The reported threat to computer users would be severe, if revealed, because Symantec’s antivirus software is widely used (estimated on more than 200 million computers worldwide), and because no action is required by victims using the latest versions of Norton Antivirus to suffer a crippling attack over the Internet. via

It is a shame that a company trusted by millions to protect computer’s is itself exposing its customer’s to hackers and crackers. I am waiting to see how promptly Symantec addresses this vulnerability and issues a patch as it will go a long way retain customer trust in Symantec products.
