facebookIf MySpace can have a Lite View Version why not Facebook? In a bid to take on its arch-rival, the Social networking giant rolled out a slimmer version of its web site to the test audience. Facebook Lite is the new face of Facebook targeted at narrowband users. Although Facebook had opened up access to lite.facebook.com for test only to some selected users, it got temporarily exposed to a larger set of users by mistake.

According to Facebook the creation of its lighter version is aimed at loading the specific features quickly and easily. This service would definitely make Facebook more supportive for mobile platforms. Some commentators described the project as a plan to add a microblogging service that would be eventually challenging Twitter.

Facebook Lite is a more simplified and fast-loading version that offers the features for adding making comments, accepting Friend requests, writing on people’s Walls, and looking at photos and Status updates. Officially the company intends to target the narrowband users more specifically in developing markets such as Eastern Asia. The company is looking to start with a more simple experience.

A few days ago Facebook acquired FriendFeed to own its ex-Google employees. Further, Facebook filliped its search features that allow users to search for 30 days worth news feeds, status updates, photos, links, and videos.

However, Facebook is yet to confirm the date when Facebook Lite would be available to U.S users or others. There’s no clear hint why Facebook wants to keep its massive followers waiting.
