Direct Marketing Assn spent $250K lobbying in 1Q

WASHINGTON — The Direct Marketing Association Inc., a global lobbying vehicle for marketers, spent $250,000 lobbying the government in the first quarter, according to a recent disclosure form.

That’s even with what the group spent in the fourth quarter of 2009 and in the year-ago period.

The New York-based association lobbied on issues related to Internet taxes, caller ID, data breaches, the expansion of the Federal Trade Commission, universal broadband and other issues.

Besides Congress, the group lobbied the U.S. Postal Service, Federal Communications Commission and Federal Trade Commission in the January-March period, according to the report filed April 19 with the House clerk’s office.
