Adobe Systems announced three major evolutions in its line of the Flash products. The software major introduced Adobe Flash Catalyst, Adobe Flash Builder 4 and the Flex 4 Framework. The Flash Catalyst is a new design and development tool in its beta. Adobe’s Flex Builder has been rebranded to Flash Builder 4 with an array of upgrades. It is the new version of its development environment. Adobe has also released open-source Flex 4 framework that underpins Flash Builder 4.
Flash Builder 4 includes new data-centric development features, and a new design-develop workflow with Flash Catalyst. The new release is based on three themes - data-centric application development, developer productivity and designer-developer workflow. The final version of Flash Builder 4 is awaiting a release this year.
Flash Catalyst is in its public beta. It is an interaction design tool that can be used to build application user interfaces without coding. It allows the users to transform artwork created in Adobe Photoshop into functional user interfaces. With Flash Catalyst the designers will be able to publish a finished project as a SWF file ready for distribution. Overall the designers can expect to create rich Internet applications.
Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder are both based on the updated Flex framework and available for beta download.
