Windows 7 Trick: How To Enable Recording in Windows Vista And Windows 7
By Partho, Gaea News NetworkFriday, February 20, 2009
There was much flurry about Microsoft’s disapproval to record from WaveMix input in its newer Windows versions. Well at the first sight it seemed the same to me. so how do I record now? With a little cut and try I got it done. Actually in Windows Vista as well as Windows 7, the WaveMix or SteroMix are disabled by default. When you check the sound panel you see the devices are disabled. You can get out of this with a simple hack.
I’ll share the hack with you. Here are the steps you do to activate the recording device
Step 1
Right click on the speaker icon. Now look for the Recording Devices and select it.
Step 2
Now right click and select the option Show Disabled Devices
Step 3
Select the Wave Out Mix device and Enable it. Click on Set as Default Device and open up the Audacity.
So you are done. Now enjoy recording whatever you like.

Seriously, thanks a bunch. I was pulling my hair out over this earlier, and it’s such a stupid simple thing. |

Thanks, this worked brilliantly. Lame of M-soft to not make it default. But at least the option is still in there if you know where to look. Cheers. |

Hi from Winfield, AL. I don’t have a wave option under the recording tab. I enabled and disabled until I am sure wave is not listed. I also get a roar when enabling Stereo Mix. |

my problem is that when i enable “stereo mix” and i get a feedback loop which only stops when I disable the stereo-mix again. i am using an Auzentech XiFi Cinema card in a Dell XPS710. So this particular trick doesn’t work for me… |

Doesn’t work with all sound cards though.. Must be Windows 7 driver problems, cause I tried the same thing, but there is no such thing as WaveMix or StereoMix |
