How To Install RSSOwl (High Quality Feed Reader) in Fedora Core 6 / Linux
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkWednesday, April 11, 2007
RSSOwl is a high quality cross-platform (written in java; uses swt library) RSS / Atom Feed reader which is a superior free alternative to Newzcrawler or Feedreader for linux. Fedora Core 6 provides an RPM distribution for it (doesn’t work) which you can install simply by:
yum install rssowl
However as stated before it doesn’t work. You are unable to save any changes to your profile including new feeds, proxy settings etc.
The solution is simple. Download the rpm file from sourceforge. Currently it is rssowl-1.2.1-0.1.i586.rpm.
Install it as follows:
rpm -i rssowl-1.2.1-0.1.i586.rpm
It works perfectly out of the box.
