VLC Media Player is a leading player for displaying video on Windows & Linux. It supports a wide variety of formats. You can also use it to save the video to a file.
1. Open the video you want to save in VLC player
2. Go to File->Wizard (Ctrl-W)
3. Select Transcode/Save to file and click Next.
4. Click on Existing playlist item to choose your current stream. You can also select an unopened stream directly from here.
Note: You can save a portion of the video by specifying starting and ending times in seconds.
5. Click Next and check Transcode video and Transcode audio (if available) and click on Next twice.
6. Select a file name to save the file to and click Finish.
Now your video starts getting recorded. To stop recording press the usual stop button.
Feel with to experiment with the different video formats, not all of them works.
