LONDON - Who says Facebook is only for the young? Even, the not-so-young can find love and happiness on the social networking site.

Barbara Moore and Laurence Brocklesby, a couple from Shipley, West Yorkshire, who are set to celebrate their first Christmas together as man and wife, found love on Facebook.

Moore, 77, began using a computer after the death of her husband died four years ago.

The former paediatric nurse who was not daunted by its association with youngsters used it to try to track down old work friends and was drawn to the profile of Brocklesby, 82, who was widowed 16 years ago.

“We would just chat about anything and everything, what we were having for tea, our hobbies and what we’d be doing for the day. It was amazing how much we had in common and we could both be so much more open over the internet,” the Daily Mail quoted Moore as saying.

“Now after getting to know each other online, we’re married and looking forward to our first Christmas as a wed couple,” she said.

The couple revealed how after three months of cheeky messages Brocklesby, a former mill worker, gathered the courage to meet her in real life.

Great-grandfather-of-four Brocklesby said: “We had been talking over the internet and we’d even started chatting every night on the phone but I don’t know if I would have ever met her if I hadn’t broken my wrist.”

“Barbara offered to drive me to the doctors because I couldn’t drive myself and that’s how it began.

“I started using the Internet a few years ago to research my family history and just got addicted,” he said.

‘Its so useful for older people who can’t get out and about to meet friends. I can chat to people all over the world without leaving the house,” he added. (ANI)
