The following patterns have been observed for managing layoff’s in any organization:

  1. Upfront big layoff is better than multiple small layoffs in terms of:
    1. Employee morale
    2. Management
    3. Better productivity
    4. Company recovery
  2. Clear post-layoff organization and reorganization strategy must be
    formulated before layoff

    1. Must be focused and possibly with reduced offering
    2. Must be grounded in reality
    3. Must be communicated well within (employees) and outside the company (customers and shareholders) after layoff
  3. Increased work pressure immediately after layoff is good.
    1. It prevents people from focusing too much on the event and fear of future doom.
    2. It prevents them from searching for opportunity’s/leaving en-masse.
    3. It is the responsibility of the manager to keep everyone occupied.
  4. Dealing with doomsday-predictors (nay Sayers) is required to be done
upfront to prevent further damage to the morale.
