Screaming Cell Phones For Thiefs - Just What The Doctor Ordered

Remote XT technology, a UK firm designed a cell phone security system which sets off a high pitch scream, permanently locks the handset and finally wipes all data if the cell phone is stolen. They hope it will halt the spiraling rise (190% increase) in phone theft.
The Remote XT technology works by installing software onto the operating system of the phone which is then activated via a call to a call center once users realize their phone has been snatched or lost.
The phone is then remotely disabled, all the data held on the device is wiped and a high pitched screech is triggered.
The screaming noise can be stopped by taking out the phone’s battery but starts again as soon as it is put back in, while replacing the SIM card has absolutely no effect.
The system also automatically backs up data held on a device once a day, meaning users can re-load their information onto a replacement handset. Link
This is what I call a technology that sells itself. While they are at it, why not detonate a small stink bomb too, for effect?

Seems kind of stupid to me. The only thing I do with a cell phone when I find a lost one is use it to find the person and return it. I’ve had the same favor done for me. |
