THE DEAL: Intel Corp. plans to buy security software company McAfee Inc. for $7.68 billion.
THE SCOPE: It’s the biggest acquisition in Intel’s 42-year history.
THE VALUE: Intel wants its chips in televisions, cell phones, cars and other Internet-connected devices. Having McAfee helps Intel improve the security of its chips and gives the company a new revenue stream. Intel plans to sell McAfee’s software alongside its chips for PCs and other Internet-connected devices.
