CALIFORNIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Google decided to pull off an amazing tricks on its users all over the world to commemorate April Fool’s Day. On the morning of Apr 1, it was found that the logo on the homepage of Google had changed, to Topeka. Needless to say, it created quite an extensive amount of confusion, as those who searched for Google were directed to a page that looked very much like the Google homepage, but had the word Topeka on top of the search bars, instead of Google. It took quite some time for the confusion to get cleared up, and it was the general consensus that Topeka is the new Google logo.
The supposition that Google has changed its name to Topeka caught on so easily because of a story had been circulating only a few days back. It was common knowledge that the city in Kansas, Topeka, had announced that it would be changing its name to Google, in a bid to gain some publicity, and hence, some extra mileage in the race for being the campaign city for Google’s new project. In reply to that, Google had announced that it would also be rechristening itself as Topeka, which, of course did not happen.
It is very obvious that Google had cashed in on that story to pull off this prank on its users. Lending more authenticity to the story of the Google Topeka logo is the fact that Google is known to choose this particular day to launch new projects. Only a few years back, it had launched Google mail or Gmail on this very day. However, the Google Topeka logo disappeared the very next day, and the homepage went back to sporting the familiar Google logo.
