NEW DELHI - Cops have taken a Chinese Mexican into custody on charges of bigamy after both his wives found each other on a popular social networking site, the Beijing police have said.
According to a police press release the two wives of the man, only known by his surname Chang, discovered each other last year on Kaixin001, a Chinese version of Facebook, reports the China Daily.
One of Chang’s wives added his “buddies” to her list. This buddy list also had his other wife and when the two started chatting and sharing wedding pics they found to their surprise that they were married to the same man.
Chang’s first wife, a woman surnamed Li from Zhejiang, made a complaint about her hubby’s multiple marriages to Chaoyang district police in March.
Cops say Chang married Li in 2005.
Later Chang married a woman surnamed Wang from Beijing in Mexico, where he was conducting business, after she fell pregnant with his child.
Chang maintained secrecy about his two marriages and split his time between Li at her Zhejiang home and with Wang in Beijing.
Although, China does not recognise dual citizenship he covertly got a Mexican passport in 2002 and used it to conveniently travel between China and other countries.
When charges were framed against him, he fled overseas.
However, he was arrested while he was secretly visiting his parents. (ANI)
