9800-3_2 RIM’s stock shot up because of the speculation that the company is going to announce the launch of new touchscreen slider Blackberry 800 at a joint event with AT&T Inc in New York next Tuesday. The stock price of RIM dropped one third in the last year because iPhone and Google’s new Android device have eaten its share of the key North American market. The new gadget is due to pose a big challenge to iPhone. AT & T is expected to get exclusive right to sell the phone in USA.

The BlackBerry 9800 is expected to carry RIM’s new BlackBerry OS 6 operating platform, along with a 360×480 touch-screen display, built-in Wi-Fi, a 5.0 mega-pixel camera, 4GBs of internal and expandable memory, and onboard GPS capabilities. The official introduction of BlackBerry OS 6 is going to enhance the features of the new device because of a revamped WebKit browsing platform, which should address one of the core complaints raised against the Storm handsets and their clumsy user interfaces. The new device will support full sliding keyboard.

There are several complaints against iPhone due to their Antenna problem. So, I guess that this is the perfect time for RIM to steal the show. Lately, RIM is also facing tough competition in the enterprise segment also because many companies are allowing employees to swap Blackberry with other smartphones.
