A Complete Guide To Clean the Hard Disk Space You Weren’t Aware of

Things kept will rot if you don’t stitch in time. This is for those of you not in a habit of cleansing you hard disk. This piles up system errors. If you ask me, I know a problem shared is a problem halved. Suggestions and ideas pour in like nothing. But where do you land up? A hornets’ nest? I’d sort out things for you. Just a small aggregate of methods would be my simple blueprint to free up you hard disk space.

Mind it, these ideas are exclusively for Microsoft OS users.

Here I begin with the mix of antidotes to free up your hard drive.

Step 1

To begin delete all the unimportant files you have accumulated over time. Get rid of the obsolete audio files, old pod-cast on itunes and old movies trailers. Uninstall the games that you are fed-up playing. For the steam games you can use the steam cleaner. Remove all the themes and extras.

When you have finished with it organize the documents and backup the important files. Make sure you don’t jade out the crucial pics, documents and all important pieces.

Step 2

Disk Cleanup is your next resort. Now with all formalities over ,get down to real cleansing. Run the Windows Disk Cleaner.

For XP users:

Start > All programmes > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

In case you are Vista user:

type Disk Cleanup the Start menu search and get to Files from all users on this computer. Next Continue, C:/ (your HDD)

This will remove all the unused old files from the system.

Step 3

Now it you need to run the Ccleaner. Its basically a freeware that optimizes your systems performance by freeing the hard disk of all the unused files. I have done with Ccleaner before, the results were great!

Step 4

Continue, now lets get on with defrag. Before running the defrag process close down all the programs in including those running in background like the firewall and anti-virus. Defraging reunites all the data into large blocks and gathers them in a sequence.

The time for defrag would depend on your system specs and size of Hard Disk. Don’t wait if you have any other job at hand, since Defragmentation could take anywhere between 20 minutes to 10 hours.

For the XP users follow what’s below

Start > All programmes > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter and finally Defragment.

Vista-users can begin by typing Disk into Start menu search, click on the Disk Derfragmenter and Continue Defragment Now

Step 5

After the defrag has been completed, you need to double the defrag by running another defragger software. Well what I have seen is windows software is somewhat pants. So I’d suggest a second defrag. For this get you need to download an authentic defragger. Well lets take Power Defragmenter (download). You don’t need to install it. Just unzip and run. It might prompt you to download certain files it needs to run.

The second defrag would obviously be faster then the first one, say 5 to 10 minutes.

Once you are done, its time to have a ball. Just look at the amount of space you’ve freed.

Just got Diskeeper09 and set it to run on auto. Awesome, defragged real clean even with less than 12% free space.
