American Software posts higher earnings, lower revenue for fiscal first quarter

American Software reports rise in 1Q earnings
ATLANTA — American Software Inc. reported higher earnings for its fiscal first quarter even though revenue came in 7 percent below year-ago levels.
The company reported net earnings of $1.2 million, or 5 cents per share, on $17.8 million in revenue for the quarter ended July 31. That compares with earnings of $610,000, or 2 cents per share, on $19.2 million in revenue for the year-ago period.
Excluding special items, the company reported earnings of 8 cents per share in the latest quarter.
Wall Street on average had expected the company to earn 7 cents per share on revenue of $20.2 million in the period, according to analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters.
American Software, which is based in Atlanta, provides supply chain management software and services. The company’s shares were up 2 cents, or 0.3 percent, at $6.15 Thursday.
