Apple has released a new support document that provides the details of Apple’s Push Notification Service in iPhone OS 3.0. The Push notification is a system that Apple developed in order work around the fact that Apple doesn’t allow the third-party apps to run in the background on the iPhone. Take a look at some of the important aspects of the support document

  • In case your iPhone OS 3.0 lacks a Notifications in the Settings menu, you don’t have an app installed the that supports notifications.
  • The notification can be received on iPod Touch at any time only if the screen is on and the Wi-Fi is connected. In case the iPod Touch is asleep it will check every 15 minutes for a notification.
  • You can disable the notifications for an app from the Settings menu
  • In case you restore a backup to your iPhone or iPod Touch you need to use an app at least once to receive the notifications again.
  • The app must have been used at least once before any notifications.
