Beware of SearchStatus Firefox Extension

SearchStatus extension for Firefox is a cool extension which shows Google as well as Alexa rankings for each page. However it synchronizes between rank updates in each tab and literally hangs your browser for extended periods when you are working with multiple tabs. In short it simply makes multi-tabbing unusable. The cpu utilization isn’t high which indicates that it is a synchronization issue or there is a deadlock problem in code. As of this time I strongly recommend that you stay away from Firefox. It was behind all my Firefox slowness problems.

Update: Changing the preferences to indicate that tabs should be loaded in background slightly eases the situation. However it still makes it a major pain to navigate and to use the browser menus etc.

Still it increases the rank of a site, isn’t it?
