BSNL DataOne - World’s Crappiest Broadband Service
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkSaturday, April 8, 2006
BSNL DataOne is undoubtedly the world’s worst broadband service, and I have seen many.
The service is erratic. It frequently gets disconnected and stays disconnected for hours. Overall I can avail their crappy service for about 30-40% of the time at best. The worst part of their service is that it often gets disconnected every few minutes. Reliability is non-existent.
Customer service? Doesn’t exist for all practical purposes.
The customer service representatives asks you to call other numbers as they openly admit their cluelessness (and blame management). The other numbers are rarely, if ever, picked. When picked they merely confirm that a problem exists. They don’t provide you with an estimated time when the problem will be fixed, not will they provide any details on the problem. Most of their problems are on their service stations.
24/7 service is alien terminology. No technical support or customer service exists on the weekend. And the service frequently goes down on weekends and stays down till monday. You would be lucky to get it restored by Monday evening.
BTW: I am on a high end plan Rs 1,300 for 256 Kbps & 4Gb data transfer. I would switch in a fraction of a second as soon as there is any competitor providing similar service in Kolkata at comparable prices.
BSNL has redefined “broadband” for me, in the worst possible way.
PS. This post could be published after an hour of waiting for their service to restore for few minutes (before going out again).

I prefer 22 KBPS EDGE over BSNL Always Offline Badband service. I know two of my friends who are enjoying good service from BSNL but many others have retorted to photon+/mobile internet:-( My speed was good & never dropped below 90% of promised speed[the connection used to drop a lot though:-)]. I never had their unlimited nightmare plan or whatever it is called. Those who have owl plan say that speed is really high in that plan so that it is possible to watch youtube [not HD] or download DVD. |

Google Public DNS: Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers. This will be helpful in those condition when your ISP (internet service provider e.g. BSN., MT.., Tat. Indi., Airt.. Broadband etc. ) is blocking any websites which is working perfectly fine with other ISPs. This will also enhance your browsing speed. |

Some web pages of naukri do not open, the browser shows the message ” the DNS server is not listed and http error 408 / 409″. Is there any better / faster DNS for dataone which can open all webpages of naukri.com Please help me. |

Im from Pakistan i was thinking that india’s broadband is better then Pakistan bcuz India has a internet getway through sea but after discussing from most of my friends in India i came to know that India’s broadband is not so good i was thinkin of bsnl 2mb broadband downloading speed about 1200-1500 kbps but its maximus is 100 or 150. Pakistan’s ptcl company provide 1,2,& 4mb broadband with downloading speed of 650-776kbps with 1mb 1024kb-1200kb for 2 mb and 1500-2500kbps for 4 mb broadband with unlimited downloadings for all packages |

I applied for BSNL BB last month through their web site. Surprisingly I get a call from their end in a weeks time that too on a Sunday. The sales guy came in on the same day and got everything done. It was a shocking change. I thought Government products are now changing and our life will become easier. My modem, ID, password came in 4 days time. It was even more shocking. It is over a month now not a single person came to install and configure the same even after several follow ups and calls (though their customer care never works). Showed their colour!!! Priceless……. |

yup its true bsnl sucks…..the customer care bastards cut the line when asked when they can resolve the problem, as the suckers do not know anything about their job, leave alone the speed iam finding it hard even to download google page on my browser. |

No doubt, the Customer service sucks. The reason they dont pick your calls. Not because they are busy, but they the lines on a no-reply, and just sitting and chatting. Even a simple question can never be answered Specially the fact that an unlimited connection will never get good speeds, only limited ones will get No doubt, it sucks |

You are right. Here in india, Bsnl sucks and Airtel rocks as far as broadband is concerned. |

Hello frens… As the service of BSNL mobile you know which is also known as “BSNL = Bhagwaan Se Nahin Lagega” or “BSNL = BhaiSaab Nahin Lagega” same thing has happenned with this broadband service.. I have been using this service (UL 900) for last 18 months and since then i have used it for like only 1 month cos this fukin BSNL connection have always has problems.. But as i dont have other options like you have in big cities so cant fukin leave it.. BSNL is the worse service provider in the whole world tho its a fukin Public company but its a fukin shame on us… Amazing thing is no one in customer service or in the field have a little bit of knowledge all the fukin linemans are into sloving the broadband complain and they know nothing what the are talking about and belive me most of them cant even fukin spell Windows and the reason they give you is you changed the password (100 times my password being ressetted but belive me i never even changed the password even once as i dont even know it)or you got virus or your fukin wire connecting to the computer needs to be changed (P.S i got a wirelss connection) so now you know what i mean.. I hope this BSNL sells out soooooooooooooooon and some private company buys it alteast we will be getting some better service… cos Rs. 890 per month is not a small amount for the fukin fuked up service I’m getting……… |

G.RAGHAVENDRA, Unlimited connection means you don’t have to worry about usage. You will not be charged extra irrespective of your usage. |
May 30, 2008: 8:46 pm
Sagar, I feel your pain. I haven’t had much good experience with them in the past. Now that I have dual-connection, I don’t notice their problems as often. Tata Indicom is a much better choice for reliable broadband connectivity. However for really reliable boradband in India, you need to join multiple broadband connections as I have done. |
May 30, 2008: 8:33 pm
Mr Dragon, Thanks for the suggestions. Now things are somewhat ok for us. The reason is that I have dual broadband connection with both BSNL and VSNL (Tata Indicom) broadband provider, which gives me enough redundancy and high bandwidth to boot. |

Dear Angsuman Chakraborty, For the frequent disconnection and change in the UL/DL speed, try a cooling device for the ADSL modem : Maybe your table fan is enough. Check if it works or not (try downloading something for some hour) and email me the result. |
