SPSS sets date for vote on sale to IBM

CHICAGO — Business software provider SPSS Inc. said Friday it will hold a special meeting of shareholders Oct. 2 to vote on selling the company to IBM Corp.

IBM’s $1.2 billion acquisition of SPSS was announced last month.

SPSS, which makes analytic software, said shareholders of record on Aug. 31 will be able to participate in the meeting, to be held in Chicago.

SPSS shares closed down 6 cents to $49.83, while IBM’s stock was down $1.21, or 1 percent, to $118.22.
