Crazy Get Rich Schemes and Crazier Fools Questions Vox Populi Vox Dei

Some college kid decides to sell each pixel on his home page for 1$ in minimum slots of 10X10 pixels or 100$. He is aiming for 1 million dollars. Surprisingly enough companies are paying him to secure a place in “internet history” as he boasts. Those managers should be outright sacked for their stupidity. In fact I noted the companies only to make sure I never do business with such fools. Wait there is more!

Another dude decides to kill his pet rabbit (named toby) and he wants internet surfers to donate him 50, 000 $ so he spares his life. He always has a deadline when he will kill toby. And that deadline always extends like daily super-deals on x10 website.
I would have thought that only the seriously retarded would fall for this scam. But I was surprised to find how gullible people are.

And then there are people who goes out of their way to prevent such “atrocities”. They managed to suspend his PayPal account. What is outrageous is that PayPal is taking the role of justice department when the present laws of the country has nothing to say against him. After all he can do whatever he wants with his pet as per law.

When heaven’s gate cult members performed mass-suicide to join their gods in hale-bopp comet, someone remarked - too many crazies, too few hale-bopps.

It is not surprising that spammers spam. It is surprising that people fall for it. And they do in large numbers.

I thought internet surfers were somewhat more educated than the rest of the population. If that is true I am horrified to think about the rest. No wonder the two country I like (India & USA) makes such questionable choices in electing their political leaders.

Such events question the validity of - “vox populi vox dei” and in turn questions the very foundation of democracy. Is the popular vote a proper way to select a leader?
