How to Add an AIM Buddy Icon to Trillian

I started using Trillian recently (second time). One of the features of AIM is Buddy Icon. I decided to add one. So I went to Cool Buddy and selected my icon: aim:BuddyIcon?src=https://www.coolbuddy.com/icon/animals/animals001.gif

Unfortunately the link is designed to trigger AIM and not Trillian. Also Trillian doesn’t offer any obvious way to add an icon from the web. I came up with two simple solutions, one elegant and the other by brute force.

Both solution requires you to place mouse on the icon, right-click and do a copy link location. In other words copy the shortcut (IE lingo) or the URL any way you can.

Then paste it in notepad and extract the actual URL (everythin after src=), which in my case is https://www.coolbuddy.com/icon/animals/animals001.gif

At that point you have two choices.
Note: I am assuming you are already in the Trillian Preferences and selected My Icon on your left.

The elegant solution is to click Browse for more pictures and paste the URL in the File name textbox. It is recognized as an URL and you are done. The other option is to actually download the file and supply the file name with full path information or just select it by browsing to the appropriate directory.

Why am I blogging this? To highlight an interesting windows feature where you can supply an URL instead of a file. It worked in all cases I tried.
