SUMMARY BOX: FCC broadband data focuses on demand
WHAT THE SURVEY FOUND: Roughly 35 percent of Americans do not use broadband at home, including 22 percent of adults who do not use the Internet at all.
THE SOURCE: The Federal Communications Commission’s first-ever survey of consumer Internet usage and attitudes was based on telephone interviews with more than 5,000 adult Americans conducted in October and November of last year.
WHY THE SURVEY MATTERS: The findings show that the national broadband plan being developed by the FCC must focus on teaching people how to use the Internet and convincing them that it is relevant to their lives.
