Summary Box: January video game sales down 13 pct
THE GAMES: Video game software sales dropped 12 percent in January, to $597.9 million when compared with a year earlier. “New Super Mario. Bros.” from Nintendo and “Mass Effect 2″ from Electronic Arts were No. 1 and 2 sellers.
THE SYSTEMS: Hardware sales slumped 21 percent to $353.7 million, with the Wii and the Nintendo DS the two best-sellers.
THE EXTRAS: Sales of accessories climbed 2 percent to $217 million.
