This Week In India: Sorrow and Joy

Waterlogged streets and flooded homes everywhere in Kolkata thanks to inept Kolkata Municipal Corporation and heavy rains last few days. Personally we haven’t suffered.
BSNL Dataone Broadband is proving to the one hell of a crappy broadband provider and to boot it comes with virtually non-existent support. Last week including today my upload speed is a pitiful 5 Kbps which is preventing me from sending out many scheduled updates to customers. The support calls are logged but nothing ever happens. It just falls into a void.
I am absolutely sick and tired of BSNL. Unfortunately there isn’t a better alternative.
Congress is trying very hard to have Pratibha Patil as President of India. She is very highly “qualified” because like Manomohan Singh, she is a blind follower of Congress supremo. Unfortunately for Dr. Kalam, he is an independent thinker and an intellectual of the highest caliber to boot. I am sad for India.
Dollar is continuing to slump against Indian Rupees, leading to a drastic decline of wealth of many. BSE Sensex touched an all time high of 14000.
Rain, rain and rain everywhere. This is the recurrent theme in India today. There are floods in parts of Bengal, lots of suffering too. The so-called posh areas in Kolkata are not so posh anymore thanks to crappy drainage system.
Our Prime Minister’s heart “bleeds” for doctors accused of terror in Britain. I wish his heart would bleed too when temples are burnt and innocent people slaughtered everyday in India by terrorists, in Kashmir and elsewhere. Does his heart also bleeds for the victims of terrorism in India, USA, UK and elsewhere? I guess selective heart bleeding is the order of the day as elections are not so far away and a certain section (read: vote bank) needs to be appeased. Maybe he should even ban Salman Rushdie or condemn his knighthood and make 5 times prayers a day compulsory for all to appease the same certain section and ensure a certain vote bank is 100% with Congress. What do you care if the rest are damned, they are not united to constitute a vote bank.
