Whirlpool’s Maytag unit is recalling about 1.7 million dishwashers after reports of electrical failures that led to fires and damage.
J.C. Penney Co., down 7 cents at $27.07
The retailer said revenue in stores open at least a year fell 1.8 percent in May, a somewhat bigger drop than analysts expected.

Ross Stores Inc., up $1.95 at $56.19
Revenue at stores open at least a year grew 5 percent in May, well above analysts’ expectations.
American Capital Ltd., down 41 cents at $4.81
An analyst cut his rating to “sell” on the private equity company, citing concerns of a possible bankruptcy filing.
Blue Coat Systems Inc., up $1.22 at $23.60
An analyst upgraded shares of the security hardware and software maker, saying the stock looks like a good buy after a recent sell-off.
Joy Global Inc., up $1.36 at $53.81
Business is booming in Chinese steel and power producing markets, allowing the company to raise profit and revenue targets.
Exide Technologies, up $1.14 at $5.41
An analyst praised the battery manufacturer’s strong fourth-quarter results and predicted growth in fiscal 2011.
Riverbed Technology Inc., up $1.31 at $28.21
FBR Capital Markets upgraded the stock, saying the company is doing a better job closing new deals as demand picks up.
