Salt Lake City hosts 4 genealogy meetings in April

SALT LAKE CITY — Thousands of family history buffs are expected to descend on Salt Lake City in April for a unique week of four conferences focused on genealogy research and technolgy.

Anchored by the 2010 National Genealogical Society’s Annual Conference, the events begin April 26 and continue through May 1.

In addition to the NGS event, the week includes the Brigham Young University’s annual Conference on Computerized Family History and Genealogy, BYU’s Family History Technology Workshop and the FamilySearch Developer’s Conference for software developers.

NGS board chairwoman Jan Alpert says the week is expected to be the single-largest genealogy event ever held.

Conference workshops include everything from basic skills, to country or region-specific research tips, understanding DNA testing and computer technology training..

Yeah, having geneology be so important to the Mormons really makes SLC a hotspot for geneology buffs. I’ll bet that 70% percent of the attendees are members of the LDS church.

This was so great. We really are blessed to have access to the Mormon Family History Library here in Salt Lake.
