H&R Block, Garmin, Autodesk are big movers
NEW YORK — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:
NYSE:
Bowne & Co. Inc., up $4.18 at $11.15
Printing services company R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. agreed to acquire Bowne for about $481 million in cash.
H&R Block Inc., down $2.41 at $17.32
The tax preparer said 2010 results will be lower than expected as more people turn to do-it-yourself services due to the weak economy.
Culp Inc., down $3.43 at $12.97
An analyst downgraded the fabric maker’s stock to “Market Perform” from “Strong Buy,” saying it’s overvalued.
FMC Technologies Inc., up $2.11 at $56.05
An analyst raised his rating on the stock, saying that order flow and backlog in its subsea business will trend higher than expected.
Zale Corp., up 22 cents at $2.78
Helped by closing stores and cutting costs, the jeweler posted a fourth-quarter profit in spite of anemic sales.
NASDAQ:
Stec Inc., down $3.15 at $10.27
The maker of data storage devices said first-quarter revenue would be as much as 53 percent lower than what Wall Street expected.
Autodesk Inc., up $2.23 at $27.89
The design software maker beat expectations for its fourth-quarter earnings and revenue as demand for the company’s products improved.
Garmin Ltd., down $2 at $32.45
Garmin said fourth-quarter net income grew 77 percent as the navigation device maker controlled costs.
