More than 300 people with their Smartphones are expected to attend at Toronto on Valentine weekend for an invitation only Flitter party, a play on the word flirting and the microblogging website Twitter. Similar type of parties will be held at Vancouver, Ottawa and Montreal on Valentine weekend. Singles, looking for a suitable match can tweet with creative skill in 140 chars. The concept is totally different from Internet Dating.
“Everything we do is designed to get people out of their shells, have an excuse to go up to other people and talk to them and to have fun. There must be some way of getting people to interact using their work devices, such as their Blackberrys or iPhones and use them to make people feel social as oppose to anti-social,” said Justin Parfitt, founder and CEO of Fastlife, the Canadian dating service
People who are going to attend the party have to sign in Tweeter account before the event. They will be given a number tag to wear after their arrival. When someone finds a person of his or her interest, they have to tweet the person’s number with a short flirty message and it will appear on a giant screen set up in the room. All of the guests will be able to see it. The tweeter can sign off with his or her assigned number or send an anonymous message or compliment. If the recipient is interested about the Tweeter, he or she can respond back or meet the person. Otherwise, they can just read the anonymous message and disregard it. All messages will end up with the word “Flitter”.
