Summary Box: FCC seeks more net neutrality input
TAKING COMMENTS: The Federal Communications Commission is seeking public input on what rules should apply to wireless Internet access and specialized services that aren’t part of the Internet but are delivered over wired broadband connections.
THE FCC’S GOAL: The inquiry is part of a broader FCC effort to adopt so-called “network neutrality” regulations to prevent broadband providers from discriminating against traffic flowing over their lines.
THE CRITICISM: The FCC’s decision is a disappointment to public interest groups that have been calling on the agency to move ahead quickly with strong net neutrality regulations to prevent phone and cable companies from abusing their control over high-speed Internet access.
