ON THE LINE: Apple Inc.’s new iPhone 4 went on sale in Japan, Germany, France, the U.K. and the U.S. on Thursday. 600,000 people reserved one in advance; thousands of others lined up outside Apple stores to get one.
OFF THE SHELVES: From Tokyo to San Francisco, some stores sold out just hours after it went on sale. People who try to order a new iPhone online now must wait until mid-July to get it.
