Taragana’s Del.icio.us mp3 Player WordPress Plugin

By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News Network

Overview

This plugin makes any mp3 links (in post or page or any other location in your blog) playable directly on your webpage. In addition, your visitors will have the opportunity to easily tag and post the mp3 link to del.icio.us. This script is extremely lightweight, as is the flash movie that plays on demand. Must-have for podcasters or anyone who wants to allow blog visitors to play mp3 files on the website itself.

If more than one file is clicked (for playing) on a single page, then the first one stops and the second file starts playing.

Like most of my WordPress plugins this is a zero-configuration plugin. It is so simple even your GrandMother can use it. Just activate it and forget. It simply works.

Compatibility

This plugin works with WordPress 1.5.x as well as WordPress 2.x. It is future-proof.

Usage

1. Activate the plugin following download and installation instructions below.
2. Then simply create hyperlinks (as many as you wish on any number of pages) to mp3 files in your post / page. Use full URL (like https://www.hotname.com/blah.mp3 and not like /blah.mp3) for the hyperlink.
Any hyperlink to a mp3 file will be automatically playable on the page.

Demonstration

This is a sample mp3 file.

Download

Please read the installation procedure below after you download Taragana’s Del.icio.us mp3 Player Plugin.

Technical Details

It uses playtagger del.icio.us script.

Uninstallation

  1. Log in to WordPress.
  2. Click Plugins from the main menu.
  3. Scroll to find the name of the Plugin - Taragana’s Del.icio.us mp3 Player Plugin, and click Deactivate.

This disables the Plugin. You can also delete the ac_mp3_player.php file from wp-content/plugins directory for permanent removal.

Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Chipmunk Effect

The Macromedia Flash player has a problem playing files that are encoded at a rate that is not a multiple of 11.025 kHz. This effect is sometimes called the “chipmunk” effect: the file is played at double speed. To avoid this, encode MP3’s at 11.025 kHz 22.050 kHz or 44.100 kHz.

Can you please help me? I love your plug in that used to work beautifully on my website and now it doesn’t. I’ve deactivated all plugins except yours to no avail.

I’m willing to pay for your time :(

WordPress just released version 2.9. We have tested Translator Plugin Pro with 2.1 release and it works perfectly out of the box.

Thanks for this excellent plugin. I have been using it for about a year now and am very happy with it. Strangely, the plugin has stopped working on the above site, only in Chrome. It works in IE and Opera. Even on Chrome, it works on other blogs. Could there be interference from some other source? I would appreciate any help. thanks a lot.

Hello there,

For some strange reason your plug in has started to include two play controls instead of one. You can see what I mean looking at the front post of my website. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Can you help fathom why this would be happening?

Hi Angsuman,
First of all, thanks very much for the great plugin.
Just one question: I see that while it works perfectly on some themes (say for example the “Dusk” theme that I have on my blog at the moment) when I try change themes (for example, to the “Tapestry” Wordpress theme), then for some reason, the “play” icon does not align with the mp3… sometimes it’s quite a few lines below or above, or to the right of it etc… any ideas what could be causing this, or how I could go about combatting this problem?

January 27, 2008: 5:25 am

Yes, it works in Spanish too, if that is what you mean.

Works fine with wpmu.
Thanks

I could not get the player to show up, only the link to the mp3. Please help!

December 6, 2007: 12:11 am

How do I swap the small player image for something larger? I’d like the player image to be more apparent to click.

September 12, 2007: 10:51 am

This player is perfection. Thanks! I’m writing to ask if there is a way to change the play/stop buttons colors?

Thanks again.

September 11, 2007: 11:39 am

Sure, Just provide links to mp3 files in your sidebar and you are done.

September 10, 2007: 11:44 am

Is there a way to play files from the sidebar using this plugin and NO widgets?
