Beware of State Bank of India Credit Card

Several people are having a bad experience with State Bank Credit Card, myself included. The whole operation smells, run by outside-minimally-paid agents and there are gaping holes in the system which can rob your blind. Even State Bank employees personally advised me not to get one. They are known to overcharge and spuriously charge your account. There was a recent ruling against them from issueing further cards in our region. The bottom-line is stay away from State bank credit card if you can. All that glitters is not gold.

I have the same experience. I got a SMS for Rs.5400/- charged by AIR INDIA CALL CENTER to my SBI Card which I was using since 2+ years. Immediately I called the customer care to inform the issue and register a complaint. They said to wait for 1-2 days to get the charge confirmed because sometimes such charges get reversed once the merchant submitting the invoice etc.

To avoid any such transaction again, I told them to close the card and reissue a new one. The lady on the call said I can lodge a complaint later also. Now when I call them they say the complaint can’t be registered as the card is closed.

I don’t understand why should I keep the card open for a bigger transaction of Rs 50000/- to come in and I start running behind SBI Card for reversal.

Smart people.. I would pay all charges expect the Rs.5400/-.
Please don’t go for SBI CARDs. It is dangerous, specially in a India where the customer grevence is the last one to be heard.

It is very sad to note that no government is curtailing the kandhu vatti of credit cards charged by nationalized bank. It seems that the hitech kandhu vatti is collected by the credit cards.
I do not when this menance would be stopped to safe the life of middle class customers.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a card holder of your concern from Jan’07, doing my payments regularly through your agents, but not in the drop box, because as per your concern it does’nt work properly, but monthly statements are not delivered to me regularly from the very beginning, last 9 months no statement came to me.
I have reported several times to your executive, they have told me that the Courier Agents problem was going on, but some of my known person who have SBI credit card they are getting their statement regularly. I also reported customer care but they replied in negative manner.
Anyway the matter not yet been solved yet, but your concern is taking the payment with late fine and other charges every month and your obi dent executives giving me the assurance every month that your problem will be solved within 7 days and all reversal will be given to you. Last 4 - 5 months back a executive from your concern came to me and I made the monthly payment and I also agreed for the settlement of Rs.10,000 (Total Amount that time Rs.26,000) but no response from your end came till date. After that your concern already taken the monthly payments and same assurance (executive from GE Money also) is given to me again and again.
You are also providing me Insurance without my concern, I have also told that to withdraw it and reverse the amount no action taken but assurance have been given.
Due to non receiving of statement, I am in dark what I have paid and what to be paid.
Today 2.9.08 a executive have talked with me and forcing me for the payment which I have stopped because of the negligence of your concern further the executive also gave me the proposal of settlement Rs.22,000. But it is quite surprising, how can it be doubled in few months.
So, it is after you to solve the problem and negotiate the matter at the earliest from your end.
Thanking you (Card No.5264 6853 1416 9838).

Hi to all

Most of the sufferers are from SBI Credit Cards Only. In Kolkata we have a SBI Credit Cards Customers Association where the victimized customer gets his facts along. I am also a victime of SBI Credit Card malpractices. Their modus operandi are illegal and the interest rate is quite absurd. Moreover they will not explain of the process of charge. You have to pay the monthly payment due for life long that is their only motive. They never intend to close your account.

I am using State Bank Credit Card since last 4 years and do not have any problem. Earlier I had the card of ICICI Bank and had a bad experience. So I do not agree that SBI Credit Card is a bad one.

Hi,

Well, i am not sure how can i explain this i had applied ICICI bank credit Card 3 months before in chennai and after 1 month the application got approved by the ICICI Bank, but unfortunately i came to Hyderabad. I have been speaking with the customer care officers every day. They used to take my complaint and they used to say your address has been changed but till now i did not receive the Card. When ever i call they used to say same thing we have updated your new address you will be getting your credit card with in 1o days but believe me there were a lot of 10 days were passed but i did not get my credit card. The thing is there is not proper communication with customer, once the customer is going forward and helping them to resolve the problem even though they are not ready yet to do.

Even i am an ICICI bank accountant.

dear friends,
I am submitting mail dt: 30.10.2007 hereunder, very lengthy - but result of my heart burn. kindly go through and if possible spread it. Let Indian consumers beaware of what sbi credit card is:
ADDRESSED TO :
To: feedback.gesbi@ge.com
CC: bohyderabad@rbi.org.in, dist.forum_rajah@apsu.ap.nic.in

Dear Sir/s

REF: CREDIT CARD NO : #### #### #### #### WRONG DEMAND OF MONEY WITHOUT USE OF CARD TILL TO DATE - REG.

This is to inform you that the above mentioned credit card has not been used by me till to date as my name is wrongly imprinted on it and brought it to the notice of bankers ( State Bank of India, APP Mills Branch, Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh ) , through whom I applied this card.Bankers infomed me that it is none of their business. If such is the response, I do not want to use a card which has been issued to me with a wrong name.

Earlier, I was approached by a lady agent of your bank, with full assurances that credit card will be issued to me without any charges whatsoever and taken my signature on an empty application form stating that she is facilitating my work of filling the application. With a very good faith on your bankers, i have signed the application form as most of the customers do with your bankers. There is no response from her too, when being informed of the wrong name on the card.

I am astonished to receive a statement being named as ” MONTHLY STATEMENT ” with the name D. SINARANAKRISHNA consisting the statement dt: 02.10.2007 and demanding an amount of Rs. 1449.86 as due on the credit card stating that my account is seriously overdue, etc etc.when as a matter of fact, I have not used the card at all and not drawn a single paise using it. It is also stated in the demand that three more statement are also available in your web on my name, when as a matter of fact, this is the statement first of its kind received by me.

I would like to mention that I am an Internal Auditor by virtue of my service in the Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills Limited, Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh and a regular customer of your bank (State Bank Of India, APP Mills Branch, Rajahmundry) since 30 years. Bankers are there to help the people and to earn profit reasonably. But,when we are seeing your credit cards business, an impression is being created in the minds of the public that bankers are looting and cheating the public by practices best adopted by you. If you can do like this to educated people like me , one can imagine what can be done to the uneducated and illiterate.

In this connection I would like to inform you that in the first instance itself, this credit card is delivered to me very very late due to confusion with the name wrongly being imprinted on envelop. Later on there is no communication at all to me except this statement dated: 02.10.2007 as stated above demanding
Rs. 1449.86/-, You are stating that there are three more statements on my name in your web. How these statements came into life and force when the credit card is not at all being operated with a wrong name on it.

It is highly absurd on your part to penalise a customer for your mistakes.
Demanding amount which is not practically due amounts to
non-adherence to the fair practises code as adopted by the bank and levying of charges without adequate reason and prior notice to the customer.

Consolidating the above as well not accepting my report by your bankers, I can also directly go to the Ombudsman and/or to the consumer forum as such matters are relating to the violation of the directives issued by the Reserve Bank in relation to banking or other services and also against natural justice.

However please look into the matters and see that such statements should not be sent to me in future. If such is going to be the attitude of your bankers in future also, accept back my credit cards and close the matter forever.

with regards.

D.SIVARAMAKRISHNA

thanks and indebted to you for reading and pl do something

[Editor] I removed the credit card number for your own protection.

These outsourced agents took my documents for SBI more gold card & then suddenly i found that my confidential docs were distributed to all kinds of credit card co’s & suddenly i started receiving calls from all over.

So please beaware of this fraud and kindly write the following before signing any docs,

Harassment calls from the Sales and Collections department, morning to night. Will not spare you even on Sundays.

Despite paying in full every month and never carrying forward a single Rupee, they insist that the amount has not been paid. Even after a stop payment advise to the bank, a registered mail with the new cheques to the Head Office, cutting the card into small pieces and requesting a cancellation of the card, no respite.

The calls simply go on and on and on. And they even call my mother and keep harassing her. Non stop. Nobody knows what to make of this because the office is in Delhi and I am in Bombay. So, they have a free pot shot at you and there is nothing you can do about it.

Thuggish behaviour from SBI. Avoid their card at all costs.

Yes.
I have no idea about HSBC cards.

Is it really true, I was planning to go for their card, any examples of their sloppiness, How about HSBC card?

August 26, 2007: 12:18 am

SBI outsourced the credit card service and even though the name is SBI, it is still a different entity which manages it, extremely sloppily if I may add.

hi there,

thanks for the tip.

Several years ago, I heard the same about all sorts of accounts with Citibank — that being a Phoren bank.

Now, Indian(Nationalised) banks are looting customers — it’s difficult to believe. But I guess things change — SBI might not remain a Nationalized bank for too long ?
