Battle Royale: Microsoft vs Google War on Office Web Application Intensifies
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkTuesday, November 18, 2008
The war of the technology giants (Microsoft and Google) have now reached office too. No, I am not talking about Mountain view or Redmond literally. But about office applications, more precisely, web based office application.
On November 17, Microsoft is launching one component of its Software + Service strategy this week: the final versions of its Microsoft-hosted versions of Exchange and SharePoint. Microsoft is launching two of its growing family of Microsoft Online services at an event in San Francisco, according to company officials.
On the other hand, though Google has announced ( in their old self-proclamation style) that Google app has reached million users, I seriously doubt it. The basic thing that even Open office is at least 5 times more popular than Google docs is a known thing. And the worst part is, Google still doesn’t seem to have many corporate, paying users for its hosted productivity apps.
While Microsoft is still airing the utilities of office 14 (their significantly new office app which will be compatible to different browsers and make a host of other applications suited for online purpose), I guess its time for Google to come up with some real good office apps before loudly soliloquizing about what they have achieved (which no one really cares for or believes).
Anyway, till Office 14 comes, let’s hope Microsoft will have a steeper competition from Google in case of office web application market and contain lesser bugs.
