Nokia buys mobile browser company Novarra

SAN FRANCISCO — Nokia Corp., the world’s largest cell phone maker, said Friday that it agreed to buy privately held mobile browser company Novarra Inc.

Terms of the acquisition, which is expected to be finalized by the end of June, were not disclosed.

Espoo, Finland-based Nokia said it will use Novarra’s mobile browser and services platform to beef up its mobile Internet offerings. The company plans to offer a new service that incorporates Novarra’s technology later this year.

Novarra, which is based in Chicago, has more than 100 employees.

Nokia’s American Depositary Shares rose 35 cents to $15.55 in trading.
