Analyst: product launches to help BlackBerry maker
SEATTLE — Research in Motion Ltd., maker of the BlackBerry line of smart phones, will get boost from two new upcoming products and a makeover of its phone operating system, an analyst who upgraded the stock said Monday.
THE OPINION: Raymond James analyst Steven Li wrote in a research note Monday that Research in Motion, which is based in Waterloo, Canada, is seen as “struggling to catch up.” But Li wrote that he thinks the company will turn around those perceptions when it launches a new touch-screen phone and a second mystery product, which may be a tablet. The update of the BlackBerry operating system should also help, he wrote.
Li upgraded the stock to “Outperform” from “Market Perform.”
THE STOCK: RIM shares rose 74 cents to close at $52.97.
