Summary Box: Adobe, Apple dispute escalates

THE OPENING JAB: A few weeks ago, Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs described Adobe Systems Inc.’s Flash as outdated, unreliable and unfit for Apple’s mobile products.

THE RESPONSE: Adobe fired back this week with an ad campaign emphasizing love — and the fact that it doesn’t love “anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the Web.”

STEPPING BACK: Apple and Adobe both insist they desire openness, even as Apple places restrictions on what software can run on iPhones, while Adobe pushes its proprietary Flash product for Web video.
