Summary Box: Review of the Flipboard iPad app

THE APP: Flipboard is an app for reading articles that puts your friends and other contacts in the job of choosing articles.

THE FEATURES: The app takes the random links that accumulate on your Facebook or Twitter account - plus your friends’ personal status updates and tweets - and makes something like a digital magazine out of them. Blurbs of text and photos recommended by friends become fodder for a continuously updated collage of content.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A review by The Associated Press finds that Flipboard comes a few flaws. For the most part, you need to be connected to the Internet at all times to use it. And headlines and photos are sometimes cut off in awkward ways. But with a few tweaks, it could be a compelling way to get your news.
