Sun Open Sources Java (April Fool)
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkSaturday, April 1, 2006
In a significant (read earth shattering for Java community worldwide) move Sun has announced their decision to open source Java technologies. The JCP will be disbanded in favor of open source bazaar model.
Sun indicated their continued love and affection towards open source movement. They stated open sourcing Java was the last mental block they faced, which they have now overcome. Their love for open source movement is apparently so deep (as evidenced in their Solaris open sourcing) that they are even prepared to sacrifice the viability of their company in favor of open source movement.
They believe Java will thrive much better after open sourcing and will emulate the success of great open source projects like Apache Harmony and Apache Maven.
I think Java corporate developers will immensely benefit from the superior quality assurance of thousand pair of ogling eyes over a dedicated quality assurance team.
They called upon Bill to take their lead and similarly open source windows.
Update: Apparently the open source community has declined to accept the horrible code base of windows in their fold. They said it is even worse than original Netscape code.
