What would happen if a giant meteor collided with earth? Wonder no more. Here is a Japanese video simulating the events in detail. Very much worth watching. Enjoy!

Hi Angusman. I’d like to use this video for academical purposes (in a science presentation). Can you tell me where or how I can download it? Thanx |

I am glad you enjoyed it. Frankly to prevent such a meteor it will take much more than few nuclear detonations as shown in movies. It will require several high-powered thermo-nuclear devices detonated strategically as well as auxillary laser support to burn away debris before it reaches earth’s atmosphere. There will still be radiation fallout. |

That is one creepy video. I always have been both fascinated and scared by end-of-the-world scenarios such as this, but what concerns me the most is the the lack of interest from the scientific community. The popular end-of-the-world scenarios have been around for decades, but all we seem to have accomplished is basic speculation as to how we could prevent such catastrophes. Speaking of disaster prevention, I did get a chuckle out of the second video. Thanks! |
