What would happen if a giant meteor collided with earth? Wonder no more. Here is a Japanese video simulating the events in detail. Very much worth watching. Enjoy!

Hi Angusman. I’d like to use this video for academical purposes (in a science presentation). Can you tell me where or how I can download it? Thanx

I am glad you enjoyed it. Frankly to prevent such a meteor it will take much more than few nuclear detonations as shown in movies. It will require several high-powered thermo-nuclear devices detonated strategically as well as auxillary laser support to burn away debris before it reaches earth’s atmosphere. There will still be radiation fallout.
It might actually be easier and safer to try to deflect it.

That is one creepy video. I always have been both fascinated and scared by end-of-the-world scenarios such as this, but what concerns me the most is the the lack of interest from the scientific community. The popular end-of-the-world scenarios have been around for decades, but all we seem to have accomplished is basic speculation as to how we could prevent such catastrophes.

Speaking of disaster prevention, I did get a chuckle out of the second video. Thanks!
